Delhi, NY: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team put on a dominant display in North Atlantic Conference action on Saturday afternoon, rolling past SUNY Delhi with an emphatic 89-34 road win.
The Fighting Tigers were led by the dynamic duo of
Logan Thayne (Hoosick Falls, NY) and
Taylor Meacham (Berne, NY/BKW), who fueled the team's commanding performance. Thayne continued her stellar season, notching yet another double-double to add to her NCAA leading total with 21 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, three steals, and two blocks while shooting an ultra-efficient 9-of-11 from the floor, including a perfect 2-for-2 from three-point range. Meacham was just as impactful, registering her own double-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds, six steals, five assists, and a block while hitting 6-of-7 shots from the field. Fellow senior
Cara Walker (Phelps, NY/Midlakes) added 14 points and five rebounds, while
Mady Victorin (Menands, NY/Shaker) made the most of her first collegiate start, posting a career-high 11 points, three rebounds, and two blocks.
Cobleskill controlled the game from the opening tip, outshooting the Broncos 50.7% to 20.0% from the field and 28.6% to 10.0% from beyond the arc. The Tigers completely dominated the glass, outrebounding Delhi 56-23 and turning that into 27 second-chance points compared to just two for the Broncos. They also capitalized on turnovers, scoring 16 points off Delhi's 17 giveaways while limiting themselves to just 11. The Cobleskill bench played a key role as well, contributing 29 points, more than doubling Delhi's 11. Inside, the Tigers controlled the paint with a lopsided 54-10 advantage, and they led the fast break battle 9-4.
Cobleskill wasted no time setting the tone as Victorin opened the scoring with back-to-back layups. Thayne pushed the lead to double digits with a strong finish off a Meacham assist, making it 12-2 with over five minutes left in the first quarter.
Talia Washington (Schenectady, NY) then found Victorin under the hoop for another easy bucket, extending the lead to 18-4 before Walker capped off the quarter with a layup off a feed from
Amber MacNeil (Hoosick Falls, NY), giving the Tigers a commanding 22-6 lead.
The second quarter saw more of the same as Cobleskill's relentless attack continued. Meacham scored three straight points to stretch the lead to 32-9 with six minutes to play.
Alyssa Martin (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) added a putback in the closing minute, and the Tigers entered the break with a dominant 46-16 advantage.
Cobleskill kept its foot on the gas in the second half, opening with a 12-2 run to erase any hope of a Delhi comeback.
Audriana Hollister (Mooers Forks, NY/Northeast Clinton) knocked down a mid-range jumper to give the Tigers a 65-25 lead late in the third quarter. With a 69-25 cushion entering the final period, Cobleskill remained in control, cruising to a wire-to-wire 89-34 victory in divisional play.
The Fighting Tigers will be back in action on Sunday, February 9, at 2:00 p.m. when they travel to Lesley University for another NAC divisional contest.
