Brockport, NY: The SUNY Cobleskill track and field team opened competition at the SUNYAC Indoor Championships on Friday hosted at SUNY Brockport.
On the men's side, distance runner
Nik Recore (Peru, NY) led the Fighting Tigers with a 10th-place finish in the 5000 meters, clocking in at 15:53.74—just four seconds shy of scoring. In the sprints, hurdler
Kameron Cusmano (Oakfield, NY/Oakfield-Alabama) made his SUNYAC debut in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing 15th with a time of 8.99.
In the field events,
Cal Marks (Wellsbur, NY) recorded a mark of 12.94m (42-5 ½) in the weight throw, placing 16th. The distance medley relay squad of
Antonio Gonzalez (Niskayuna, NY), Cusmano,
Charles Cooper (Connetquot, NY), and Recore took 11th in a competitive field.
For the women, first-year thrower
Adira-Virginia Greer-Padilla (Fallsburg, NY) turned in the team's top finish of the day, placing ninth in the weight throw with a toss of 12.48m (40-11 ½), just missing the scoring positions. Teammate Dory Gooselin (Whitehall, NY) also competed in the event, finishing 18th with a mark of 10.96m (35-11 ½).
On the track,
Alyssa Freeguard (Argyle, NY) placed 14th in the 5000 meters, crossing the line in 20:58.74. The distance medley relay team of
Gillian Miner (Saranac, NY),
Madison Binette (Lewiston, ME), Freeguard, and
Gabrielle Waite (Pulaski, NY)posted a strong effort, securing seventh place with a time of 14:00.78.
The Fighting Tigers return to action on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. for the final day of the SUNYAC Championships, looking to build on their performances.
