Clinton, NY: The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team came out swinging Friday evening, but couldn't hold down the Hamilton bats in a 20-7 road loss at the Loop Road Athletic Complex.
Cole Platt (Oneonta, NY) delivered the big knock early for the Tigers, finishing with a team-high two RBIs on a 1-for-4 night that included a hard-hit single up the middle in the third inning.
Ryan Lansing (Cooperstown, NY) added spark at the top of the order, going 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored.
Jeffrey Gutierrez (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Hayes) stayed hot at the dish, reaching base three times and going a perfect 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.
Thomas Reis (Deposit, NY) and
Anthony Sergi (Chenango Forks, NY) also chipped in with base hits for Cobleskill.
On the mound, it was a bullpen carousel for the Tigers, with seven different arms toeing the rubber.
Adam Champlin (South Kortright, NY) (0-2) took the loss after recording just two outs and surrendering four runs in relief.
Evan Balbera (Patchogue, NY) logged the longest outing, tossing 3.2 innings and giving up four runs on seven hits while striking out a pair.
After Hamilton plated a lone run in the second, Cobleskill came alive in the top of the third. Gutierrez got the Tigers on the board with an RBI single, and some aggressive baserunning coupled with a Hamilton miscue helped
Zach Ducorsky (Oceanside, NY) and Gutierrez come around. With the inning still cooking, Platt came through witha two-RBI single to bring home
Korin Laurilla (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) and
David Flora (Windsor, NY), giving Cobleskill a 5-1 cushion.
The Tigers tacked on one more in the fourth thanks to a fielder's choice RBI that brought
Anthony Sergi across, but from there, Hamilton took control of the game.
Hamilton broke it open with six runs in the fifth, five more in the sixth, and another five-run frame in the seventh. Cobleskill scratched across one final run in the ninth when pinch-hitter
Logan Moore (Corning, NY/Corning Painted-Post) scored on a throwing error, but the damage had long since been done.
