The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team hosted Lesley University in a Saturday doubleheader on April 26, 2025, at Oneonta, NY, with each team claiming one game. The Fighting Tigers took the opener 6-2, while the visiting Lynx rebounded to win the nightcap 14-8. The twin bill featured strong pitching and timely hitting by Cobleskill in Game 1, followed by an offensive outburst from Lesley in Game 2.
Game 1 Recap (SUNY Cobleskill 6, Lesley 2)
In the first game, SUNY Cobleskill scored six runs on 12 hits with no errors, while holding Lesley to two runs on five hits. The Tigers jumped ahead with a three-run second inning and added three insurance runs in the sixth. Sophmore catcher
Korin Laurilla led the Cobleskill offense, going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in. Sophomore second baseman
Ryan Lansing had a breakout game, finishing 2-for-3 and showcasing his power and speed with a solo home run and an RBI triple; he drove in two runs and scored twice. Right fielder
Jesus Sarda and shortstop
Jeffrey Gutierrez also contributed with back-to-back RBI doubles in the second inning, each plating a run to build the early lead.
On the mound, senior left-hander
Logan Scott (1-2) earned the win for Cobleskill, pitching 4.0 innings and allowing two runs while striking out one. Junior reliever
Evan Balbera was outstanding in relief, tossing 3.0 scoreless innings and surrendering just two hits to record the save (his 1st). Cobleskill's pitchers did not allow an extra-base hit or commit an error on defense in the opener, shutting down the Lynx after the fourth inning.
Game 2 Recap (Lesley 14, SUNY Cobleskill 8)
In Game 2, the Lesley University lineup erupted for 14 runs on 16 hits, including two home runs, to earn a split in the doubleheader. SUNY Cobleskill opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-0 lead, but Lesley responded swiftly. The Lynx tied the game with a three-run third inning and broke it open with a six-run outburst in the fourth, seizing a 9-3 advantage. They added two runs in the fifth and three more in the seventh for insurance, showcasing consistent production throughout the lineup.
Middle-of-the-order bats powered Lesley's offense. Senior catcher Colin McCarthy launched a three-run home run as part of the fourth-inning rally, one of two Lynx homers in the game. Fellow senior Colby Jacobs added the other, a two-run shot in the seventh inning.
SUNY Cobleskill fought back late, scoring in three different innings, but ultimately fell short. The Tigers tallied eight runs on 10 hits and again showed some extra-base pop with three doubles and a triple. Junior shortstop
Jeffrey Gutierrez provided a highlight for Cobleskill in the second inning, clearing the bases with a three-run triple to give the Tigers their early 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, senior third baseman
David Flora stroked a bases-loaded double to drive in three runs, capping a 1-for-2 day that saw him reach base twice and collect three RBIs. Right fielder
Jesus Sarda continued his hot hitting from Game 1 by finishing a perfect 3-for-3 (all singles) with a walk in Game 2, while senior center fielder
Zach Ducorsky added a hit, two stolen bases, and a run scored for Cobleskill. Despite the late offensive efforts, the Tigers were unable to overcome the large deficit created in the middle frames.
Lesley senior pitcher Jacob Nemergut picked up the win, pitching 6.0 innings and striking out six, but he was fortunate to benefit from ample run support after allowing eight runs. Cobleskill starter
Tanner Wood was charged with the loss. The Tigers' defense committed two errors in Game 2, extending a couple of innings for the Lynx, while Lesley played error-free baseball across both games.
Up Next: The Fighting Tigers will look to carry the positives from the day, including standout performances from veterans like Laurilla and Lansing, into their next matchup. They continue their conference schedule tomorrow with a doubleheader against Lesley University. The first pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. at SUNY Cobleskill.
