Cobleskill Falls to Husson in NAC Softball Championship, Caps Historic Season

Oneonta, NY: The SUNY Cobleskill softball team saw its historic 2025 season come to a close on Sunday afternoon, falling to top-seeded Husson University 8-0 in the North Atlantic Conference Championship Game at SUNY Oneonta.

The Tigers were led at the plate by seniors Mackenzie Wendelken (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) and Kailee DiGiacco (Spencerport, NY), who each recorded doubles in their final collegiate game. Wendelken went 1-for-3, while DiGiacco finished 1-for-2. Sophomores Jenna Smyczynski (East Aurora, NY) and Aliyah Neeser (Forest Lake, MN/Forest Lake Area) collected the other two Cobleskill hits as the Tigers were limited to four on the day.

Madelynn Orosz (Seymour, CT/Nonnewaug) got the start in the circle and went 5.0 innings, allowing six runs on eight hits. First-year Gabriella Wendelken (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) pitched in relief, giving up two runs on three hits.

Cobleskill opened the game with early promise as Smyczynski singled to center and Kylie Rattigan (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) drew a walk to put two on base. However, Husson escaped the inning without damage and grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

The teams traded scoreless frames in the second, but the Eagles added another run in the third. In the fourth, Mackenzie Wendelken sparked a potential rally with a leadoff double, but Husson ace Ana Lang responded by retiring the next three batters.

The Tigers continued to battle in the fifth. With two on and two out, Rattigan made solid contact, but Lang fielded it cleanly to end the threat. In the bottom of the inning, Husson broke through with a two-run inside-the-park home run, extending the lead to 4-0.

Cobleskill's final scoring chance came in the sixth when Gabriella Wendelken walked and Neeser singled to third. A wild pitch advanced both runners into scoring position, but Lang again responded with back-to-back strikeouts to escape. Husson then sealed the title with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to win the NAC Championship.

The loss concludes a record-breaking season for the Tigers, who reached the NAC Championship Game for the first time in program history and set a new single-season wins mark with 22.

NAC Softball All-Tournament Team Selections
Kylie Rattigan, Mackenzie Wendelken and Gabriella Wendelken were all named to the 2025 NAC Softball All-Tournament Team for their outstanding play throughout the tournament.
