Cobleskill, NY – The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team is back in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Semifinals and will hit the road on Sunday, February 22 for a matchup with top-seeded UMaine-Farmington. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. in Farmington, Maine.
The Fighting Tigers return to the semifinals for the third time in the past four seasons after missing out last year. Cobleskill enters the weekend with a 12-13 overall record and a 10-8 mark in NAC play, riding a two-game win streak into Sunday's contest.
UMaine-Farmington brings a 20-5 overall record and a 17-1 conference mark into the semifinal, along with a seven-game winning streak and the top seed in the tournament bracket.
The two teams met twice during the regular season, with the Beavers earning a 92-75 win in Farmington on November 21 and holding off the Tigers 86-80 in a tight battle inside the Iorio Gymnasium on January 17. Sunday presents another opportunity for Cobleskill to close the gap and challenge one of the league's most explosive offenses on its home floor.
Sophomore
Marquay Tanksley (Cohoes, NY) sets the tone for the Tigers on both ends of the floor, leading the team with 10.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 41.8 percent from the field. His ability to defend multiple positions, attack the glass, and create off the bounce makes him a key piece in Cobleskill's game plan.
Emilio Nabli (Brooklyn, NY), who joined the team midway through the season, has provided an instant spark off the bench, averaging 10.3 points and 2.6 assists per game while adding secondary ball-handling and scoring punch to the rotation.
Captain
Chrischen Chung (Poughkeepsie, NY) stretches the floor for the Tigers, knocking down a team-high 43 three-pointers while averaging 9.2 points per contest. He also leads the squad with 2.7 assists per game, serving as a steady presence in the half-court offense.
Cobleskill's depth has been a strength throughout the season, with five additional players averaging at least eight points per game.
Andrew Wright (Berne, NY) contributes 8.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game,
Bruce Wilder Jr. (Rochester, NY) adds 8.5 points,
Rowan Morel (Manhattan, NY) chips in 8.3 points,
MJ Ford (Staten Island, NY) averages 8.2 points, and
Cameron Rhode (Elmira, NY) provides 8.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per outing. The Tigers' balanced scoring allows them to push tempo, play through multiple options, and keep pressure on opposing defenses.
UMaine-Farmington features one of the most potent offenses in the NAC, with five players averaging double figures. Zach McLaughlin is one of the NAC top scorers at 25.5 points per game, while Jason Reynolds adds 17.5 points and 15.2 rebounds per contest, giving the Beavers a strong inside-out combination.
Cobleskill won its last NAC Semifinal appearance with an 84-82 victory over SUNY Delhi during the 2023-24 season.
