Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Tigers Hold Off VTSU-Castleton for 60-57 Road Win

Castleton, VT – The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team continued its strong run through Vermont, earning its third win in the Green Mountain State in five days with a hard-fought 60-57 non-conference victory over VTSU-Castleton on Tuesday night.

The Tigers placed three players in double figures, led by Jaiyla Colon (Worcester, MA) with 15 points, six rebounds, and three assists while helping control the pace in crunch time. Hannah Bonczkowski (Gilbertsville, NY) added 14 points and seven rebounds, delivering timely shots as Cobleskill weathered Castleton's late push. Kyara Triblet (Colonie, NY) also finished with 14 points on an efficient 5-of-8 shooting night, adding two assists. Off the bench, Kate Hadwen (Fair Haven, VT) provided seven points, while Zaylee Ramos (Worcester, MA) chipped in six points and seven rebounds to help anchor the paint.

Cobleskill finished the night shooting 22-of-56 from the floor, nearly identical to Castleton's 22-of-59 effort. Both teams struggled from beyond the arc, with the Tigers connecting on 3-of-10 and the Spartans going 2-of-10. Cobleskill won the rebounding battle, 39-33, and the Tigers' depth proved decisive as the Cobleskill bench outscored Castleton 17-0.

The Tigers set the tone early when Sydney Delisle (Mechanicville, NY) came up with a steal and found Hannah Bonczkowski for a layup to open the scoring. Kyara Triblet tied the game at 4-4 with a jumper four minutes in, and a 7-0 run capped by a Kate Hadwen three gave Cobleskill early separation. Castleton answered to tie the game at 10-10, but the Tigers responded with a 6-0 burst highlighted by a Triblet finish to take a 16-10 lead after one.

Cobleskill continued to build momentum in the second quarter as a Colon jumper pushed the lead to double digits at 22-12. Zaylee Ramos added a tough turnaround in the paint, and another Delisle steal led to a bucket from Alyssa Martin (Castleton, NY) to keep the Tigers in front. Castleton trimmed the margin late, but Cobleskill carried a 30-23 advantage into halftime.

The second half opened with a Triblet jumper, but Castleton surged midway through the third with a 10-0 run to tie the game at 35-35. Bonczkowski answered with a timely three to swing momentum back to the Tigers, and back-to-back driving layups from Hadwen helped Cobleskill regain control and take a 46-39 lead into the fourth.

The final quarter turned into a possession-by-possession battle. Castleton briefly pulled ahead, 51-49, with three minutes remaining, but Triblet calmly tied the game at the line. Bonczkowski then buried a transition three to put the Tigers back in front, and Ramos followed with a clutch bucket inside. Cobleskill iced the game at the free-throw line to secure the 60-57 road win.
