SALEM, Va. — The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team generated timely offense and a pair of home runs on Tuesday afternoon but fell to Roanoke College, 17–6, in a non-conference contest at Salem Memorial Ballpark.
The Tigers produced six runs on seven hits and showed resilience throughout the contest, scoring in three separate innings and receiving key contributions from multiple spots in the lineup.
Redshirt sophomore Tony Woodie (West Palm Beach, Fla.) led the Cobleskill offense with three runs batted in, highlighted by a two-run home run. Senior Cole Platt (Oneonta, N.Y.) added a solo homer as part of a two-RBI performance.
Junior catcher Korin Laurilla (East Greenbush, N.Y.) paced the Tigers at the plate with a strong all-around effort, recording a double, scoring twice, and driving in a run. Senior designated hitter Jesus Sarda (Colonie, N.Y.) also contributed with an RBI single and a stolen base.
Cobleskill opened the scoring in the top of the third inning when Laurilla reached with a double and later crossed the plate on an RBI groundout by Woodie to give the Tigers an early lead.
After Roanoke responded offensively, Cobleskill mounted its biggest rally in the fifth inning. The Tigers capitalized with a three-run frame, highlighted by Woodie's two-run home run to center field and an RBI single from Sarda that kept the Cobleskill offense within striking distance.
The Tigers added two more runs in the sixth inning when Platt launched a solo home run before Laurilla later came around to score.
Additional offensive contributions came from Jeffrey Gutierrez, who doubled, while Logan Firment and Jake Brazzano each recorded a hit. Alex Slater reached base three times with two walks and a hit-by-pitch.
Cobleskill used five pitchers in the contest, including Greg Mable, Jared Ainsworth, Mike Markle, and Logan Moore out of the bullpen.
Defensively, Laurilla also threw out a runner attempting to steal while the Tigers turned in solid fielding efforts across the diamond.
