Cobleskill Baseball Battles Swarthmore in High-Scoring Spring Break Matchup

LEXINGTON, S.C. — The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team put together one of its strongest offensive performances of the young season on Thursday afternoon, but Swarthmore outslugged the Tigers in a 17-10 non-conference contest at a neutral site in Lexington, S.C.

Cobleskill finished with 10 runs on 16 hits, scoring in seven different innings and getting home runs from Tony Woodie, Logan Firment, and Korin Laurilla. Woodie led the offensive effort with a 3-for-4 day, four RBIs, two runs scored, and a stolen base. Firment added two hits, including a home run and a double, while Laurilla drove in two runs with his homer.

Ryan Lansing also turned in a big game at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored, and two walks. Jeffrey Gutierrez added two hits and scored twice, while Alex Slater collected two hits, scored once, and stole two bases. Cole Platt chipped in a pair of hits as the Tigers produced consistent pressure throughout the lineup.

Cobleskill jumped out quickly with two runs in the top of the first inning and continued to answer throughout the game, adding single runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and ninth innings while posting two-run frames in both the seventh and eighth. The Tigers' three home runs highlighted an aggressive offensive approach that kept them within reach deep into the game.

On the mound, Cobleskill used seven pitchers in the contest, with Tyler Sienko making the start followed by relief appearances from Hunter Smith, Eva Balbera, Vinny Spadafina, Brandon Sakowsky, Christian Tedford, and Braden Reid. Smith provided a scoreless inning in relief for the Tigers.

Despite the loss, Cobleskill showed continued offensive growth with its highest run total of the trip, finishing with extra-base hits from Lansing, Gutierrez, Firment, and the home run swings from Woodie, Firment, and Laurilla.
