Cobleskill Falls to St. Joseph’s (L.I.) on the Road

Patchogue, N.Y. — The SUNY Cobleskill men's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference matchup to St. Joseph's University (Long Island) on Saturday afternoon, falling by a final score of 8-3.

Cobleskill struck first midway through the opening quarter when Alex Baker finished a scoring opportunity at the 6:17 mark to give the Tigers an early 1-0 advantage. St. Joseph's responded later in the period with a goal from Anthony Herrera to even the contest at 1-1 heading into the second quarter.

The Golden Eagles gained momentum in the second period, scoring twice to take a 3-1 lead into halftime. Cobleskill battled back in the third quarter as Baker netted his second goal of the afternoon before Rob Staubitz added a short-handed goal with 5:45 remaining in the period to cut the deficit.

St. Joseph's answered quickly and continued to apply pressure offensively, scoring three goals in the third quarter and adding two more in the fourth to secure the 8-3 victory.

Baker led the Tigers offensively with two goals on five shots, while Staubitz recorded a goal on seven shots and collected six ground balls. At the faceoff X, Dylan Linehan went 8-for-13 helping Cobleskill remain competitive in possession throughout the afternoon.

In goal, James Meier recorded 14 saves while facing 35 shots from the Golden Eagles. As a team, Cobleskill finished with 24 shots and 16 shots on goal while collecting 45 ground balls in the contest.

Next Up: SUNY Cobleskill will look to rebound in its next non-conference matchup on Wednesday, March 18th at Elmira College.
