Cobleskill Baseball Earns Road Win at Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team earned a hard-fought 8-7 non-conference victory over Skidmore College on Tuesday afternoon at Ferrari Field. The Tigers improved to 2-6 on the season with a disciplined offensive approach and aggressive baserunning.

Cobleskill scored in five of the first six innings, building an early advantage with runs in the first, third, fourth, and fifth innings. The Tigers plated one run in the opening frame before adding two runs in each of the third, fourth, and fifth innings to take control of the game.

Jeffrey Gutierrez led the way offensively, scoring twice while adding an RBI, two walks, and three stolen bases. Jake Brazzano paced the Tigers with a 2-for-3 performance, including an RBI and a run scored. Ryan Lansing contributed a hit and an RBI, while Jesus Sarda added an RBI and a stolen base.

Cobleskill's offense remained patient throughout the contest, drawing 12 walks and taking advantage of four Skidmore errors. The Tigers also swiped 10 bases, consistently putting pressure on the Thoroughbreds' defense.

On the mound, Marciano Neglia made the start, allowing three runs over three innings. The bullpen was strong throughout the middle innings, highlighted by Evan Balbera, who tossed two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Greg Mable added a scoreless frame, while Hunter Smith earned the win with a clean inning of work.

Logan Firment closed out the game in the ninth, recording the final three outs to secure the victory.

Defensively, the Tigers turned two double plays, and Korin Laurilla threw out a runner attempting to steal to help preserve the lead late.

Skidmore mounted a four-run rally in the seventh inning to cut into the deficit, but Cobleskill's pitching staff held firm down the stretch to seal the win.
