Purchase, N.Y. — The SUNY Cobleskill men's lacrosse team used a strong fourth quarter to pull away from SUNY Purchase and secure an 11-8 non-conference victory on Wednesday afternoon.
Cobleskill's offense was led byÂ
Noah Palange (Pompton Lakes, NJ) who recorded five goals and an assist.
Alex Baker (Guilford, VT) chipped in two goals and an assist while newcomerÂ
Jace Miranda (Fayetteville, NY) had an outstanding debut with three goals and three ground balls.
Rob Staubitz (East Rockaway, NY) added a goal and two assists while picking up five ground balls.
Dylan Linehan (East Longmeadow, MA) was everywhere for the Tigers registering three assisted and a team-high seven ground balls.
In goal,
James Meier (Guilderland, NY) made 13 saves on 21 shots on goal to help anchor the Cobleskill defense. At the faceoff, the Tigers controlled possession throughout the contest, creating additional offensive opportunities. Lineham led the Tigers going 7-of-8 while
Chase Clark (Glens Falls, NY) finished 6-of-8.
Cobleskill finished with 40 shots (24 on goal) compared to 34 shots (21 on goal) for Purchase while holding the Panthers to just one goal in the fourth quarter.
Purchase opened the game with early momentum, scoring four times in the opening quarter while Cobleskill answered with two goals to trail 4-2 after the first. The Tigers responded in the second period, outscoring the Panthers 4-2 to tighten the contest heading into halftime.
Both teams battled defensively in the third quarter, with Cobleskill limiting Purchase to one goal while adding one of their own to keep the game close entering the final frame. Cobleskill seized control in the fourth quarter, scoring four goals while holding the Panthers to a single tally to secure the 11-8 victory.
