COBLESKILL, N.Y. — The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team earned a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader sweep over Vermont State Lyndon on Friday at Fighting Tiger Field, taking the opener 5-4 before closing out the day with a 1-0 win in eight innings in the nightcap.
Game One:Â the Tigers totaled five runs on 12 hits and used a three-run eighth inning to secure the win. Cobleskill scored twice in the fourth inning and added the decisive three runs in the eighth, while Lyndon finished with four runs on just three hits.
Cobleskill's offense was led by a balanced attack throughout the lineup. The Tigers got 12 hits from seven different players, with Ryan Lansing, Jake Brazzano, Jeffrey Gutierrez, Logan Firment, and Cole Platt all contributing multiple hits. Lansing doubled as part of a two-hit game, while Gutierrez, Brazzano, Firment, and Platt also recorded two hits apiece. Cobleskill got RBIs from Cesar Cisneros, Ryan Alt, and Jeren Harrison, and Matt Gonyeau reached base three times with three walks and scored once.
Game Two: Cobleskill and Lyndon battled through a scoreless pitchers' duel until the bottom of the eighth inning. Jesus Sarda came through as a pinch hitter and later scored the winning run when Ryan Lansing delivered the game-winning hit to give the Tigers a 1-0 victory.
Alex Burciaga was outstanding for Cobleskill in the nightcap, tossing 7.0 scoreless innings while allowing four hits and striking out six. Na'eem Bornstein-Brown worked the eighth inning and helped finish off the shutout as the Tigers made the lone run stand up.
Cobleskill's offense in Game Two was led by Logan Firment, who went 2-for-3 with a triple. Troy Enamait doubled, while Lansing, Woodie, Laurilla, Cole Platt, and Aidan Creamer each added a hit in the win.
With the sweep, the Tigers combined timely hitting and strong pitching to outlast Lyndon in both ends of the twinbill.
