Mann continues breaking records

TROY, N.Y. — The SUNY Cobleskill men's track and field team turned in a standout performance at the RPI Under the Lights Invitational, highlighted by yet another record-breaking effort from freshman William Mann in the shot put.

Mann continued his remarkable freshman campaign by once again rewriting the Fighting Tigers' record book, uncorking a best throw of 14.77 meters (48 feet, 5½ inches) to surpass his own previous program record of 14.60 meters. The mark also met the Atlantic Region Track and Field Championships qualifying standard, securing Mann a spot in the postseason field. The freshman finished fourth overall in a stacked shot put field, making the achievement all the more impressive against a deep lineup of regional competition.

Mann also showed his versatility across the throwing events, competing in the discus (12th, 37.04m/121-6), hammer (7th, 44.04m/144-6), and javelin (13th, 39.97m/131-1). Cal Marks added to the team's presence in the throws, placing 16th in the discus (35.30m/115-10) and 20th in the shot put (11.20m/36-9), while Zachary Russell contributed with a 19th-place finish in the discus (34.74m/114-0) and also competed in the shot put.

On the track, David Kogan represented Cobleskill in the 800m, finishing 31st in 2:13.55. Jacob Rhinesmith and Michael Jocz both toed the line in the 1500m, finishing 21st (4:55.00) and 18th (4:51.37) respectively. Zander Fortune and Patrick Ponzo each competed in the 100m preliminaries, posting times of 11.78 and 11.84 respectively. Uriel Lopez Navarro and Antonio Gonzalez rounded out the team's track efforts in the 400m, finishing 27th (58.51) and 29th (59.22).

The Fighting Tigers will look to build on Mann's record-breaking momentum as the postseason approaches.
