Tigers Swept at Home by Skidmore

COBLESKILL, N.Y. - The SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers were swept by Skidmore College in a doubleheader at Fighting Tiger Park on Wednesday afternoon, falling 14-3 in Game 1 and 6-4 in a tighter Game 2 nightcap.

Game 1: Skidmore 14, SUNY Cobleskill 3

Cobleskill starter Gabriella Wendelken took the loss. She was charged with eight earned runs over three innings before being pulled mid-frame with the Tigers trailing. Madelynn Orosz finished the game in relief.
Avery Prievo was the offensive standout for Cobleskill, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a solo home run in the fourth inning and two RBI, accounting for two of the team's three runs. Sammy Fausti added a 2-for-3 effort and scored twice, while Aliyah Neeser drove in one. The Tigers did push across a run in the first; Fausti singled, moved up on a Kylie Rattigan sacrifice, and scored on a Prievo RBI single, and added individual runs in the fourth and fifth innings, but Skidmore's offensive outburst in the middle innings was simply too much to answer.

Game 2: Skidmore 6, SUNY Cobleskill 4
The second game was competitive and lasted eight innings. Sam Lawton was outstanding for Cobleskill on the mound, pitching all eight innings, striking out four, and allowing no walks. Lawton gave up six runs on 13 hits, including two decisive runs in the final inning as Skidmore capitalized on the runner-on-second tiebreaker.
Cobleskill held the lead through most of the game. After Skidmore scored at the top of the first on a Sam Waters RBI groundout following a leadoff triple, the Tigers answered in the bottom half. Fausti singled, Kylie Rattigan reached on a throwing error, and Avery Prievo's fielder's choice plated Fausti to tie it at one. The Tigers took control in the third with three runs. Prievo delivered a two-run double, scoring Fausti and Rattigan. Gabriella Wendelken followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2.
Skidmore chipped away, pulling within 4-3 with a run in the third and adding one more in the sixth to tie the game. The Thoroughbreds then took the lead for good in the eighth inning when, under extra-inning rules with a runner placed on second, Rachel Monser singled home a run and Elle Harrison followed with another RBI single to give Skidmore a 6-4 advantage that Cobleskill could not overcome.
Prievo was again Cobleskill's top hitter, going 1-for-4 with a two-run double and three RBI over both games. Rattigan was 1-for-4 with a run, and Fausti reached base twice and scored both times.

Up Next: The Tigers take on Lesley University on Saturday, April 18th, in an NAC Conference doubleheader starting at 2 pm.
