Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Cobleskill Takes Early Lead Before Falling to SUNY Delhi, 3-1

Cobleskill, NY – The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team grabbed an early first-half lead but was unable to hold off SUNY Delhi, falling 3-1 on Wednesday evening at the Soccer/Lacrosse Complex.

Senior Connor Fancher (Worcester, NY) scored the Tigers' lone goal, his third of the season. Spencer Reisman (Youngstown, NY) recorded an assist and finished with two shots, including one on target. First-year Michael Neaton (Saratoga Springs, NY) also put an attempt on frame, while Rob Staubitz (East Rockaway, NY) and Gavin McEnroe (Burlington Flats, NY) each added a shot on goal.

First-year goalkeeper Sean Hanrahan (Elmira, NY) made six saves over 90 minutes and allowed just one goal from the run of play.

Cobleskill finished with eight shots, five on target, while Delhi recorded 25 shots with nine on frame. The Broncos held an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks and were awarded two penalty kicks. Despite the physical nature of the match, neither side was shown a card.

Cobleskill nearly struck first when Neaton was played in behind the Delhi backline, but the Broncos goalkeeper came up with the save. The Tigers broke the deadlock in the 24th minute when Reisman drove a free kick toward the corner, forcing a diving stop from the keeper. Fancher pounced on the rebound and fired it home to give Cobleskill a 1-0 lead.
Delhi responded later in the half to level the match at 1-1 when Aidan Gaughan finished off a flick from a teammate. The teams appeared headed into halftime tied, but a handball in the box gave the Broncos a penalty kick in the closing moments of the half. Delhi converted from the spot to take a 2-1 lead into the break.

The second half remained physical as Cobleskill searched for an equalizer. Reisman worked his way to the top of the box in the 52nd minute, but his effort was blocked before it could test the goalkeeper. The Tigers' backline continued to absorb pressure, and Fancher nearly tied the match in the 76th minute when his shot slipped just wide of the post.

Cobleskill stayed within one until the final minutes, but Delhi was awarded a second penalty kick in the 89th minute. Gaughan converted from the spot to complete his hat trick and close out the 3-1 result.
