Poultney, Vt.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team opened the 2015 portion of their schedule with an important non-conference road win over host Green Mountain College by a 79-75 margin on Sunday afternoon. The victory snaps a six-game losing streak for the Fighting Tigers who improve to 2-8 overall on the season while the Eagles now fall to 3-7 overall on the campaign with the loss.

The visitors jumped out to a 40-27 lead at the half on the strength of one of their best shooting efforts of the season as Cobleskill connected on 16-of-31 shots from the field, 51.6%, and 8-of-9 from the charity stripe, 88.9%, during the stanza.

However the Eagles would not fly away quietly cutting the Fighting Tigers lead 55-54 with 9:40 remaining in regulation on a lay-up by junior forward Cameron Anderson, Charlottesville, Va., Blue Ridge High School, which capped 9-to-2 run by Green Mountain.

The Fighting Tigers then responded with a five-run of their own to go ahead 60-54 with 8:59 left highlighted by a long-range three-pointer by senior guard Bryan Backus, Walton, N.Y., Walton High School/SUNY Delhi, before extending their advantage to 73-61 with 2:34 remaining in regulation on a lay-up by senior forward Mike Marcelin, Dix Hills, N.Y., Half Hallows High School/Suffolk Community College.

The Eagles made one last rally as Cobleskill went cold from the free connecting on only 6-of-15 attempts down the stretch but in the end could not claw their way back into the contest.
