Fighting Tigers Lax Impressive in 11-6 Road Victory Over Alfred State College

Acompora Scores Five Times as Cobleskill Downs Host Pioneers in Non-League Action

Alfred, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's lacrosse team continued their winning ways on Wednesday afternoon posting a 11-6 road win at Alfred State College in non-conference action. With the victory the Fighting Tigers extend their current winning streak to two games improving their overall record to 2-1 on the year while the host Pioneers open the season at 0-1 overall.

Cobleskill started slow after their long road trip to New York's western region trailing 3-0 at the end of the first period. However the second period was all Fighting Tigers as sophomore midfielder David Meyers, Manorville, N.Y., Eastport South High School, tallied the team's first goal at the 13:45 mark of the quarter to make it 3-1 and get the comeback started. From that point on, the Fighting Tigers dominated the half outscoring their hosts 5-1 the rest of the way to take a 6-4 halftime lead on the strength of three goals by junior attackman Alex Acompora, Harrison, N.Y., Harrison High School.

After the Pioneers scored once in the third period and once in the fourth period to tie the contest at 6-6 with 14:38 remaining in regulation; Cobleskill took the game over on both sides of the field as Alex Acompora scored what would turn out to be the game eventual game winner with 12:33 left to play as part of a 5-to-0 Fighting Tigers run to victory.

David Meyers also continued his strong early season all-around play with a goal, three assists and four ground balls in the victory.

The Fighting Tigers received several other key offensive efforts from: junior attackman Chris Wright, Connetquot, N.Y., Connetquot High School, who scored a goal and passed out an assist, midfielder Troy Rossi, Tri-Valley, N.Y., Tri-Valley High School, who had a goal to go with an assists and from freshman Anthony Yevoli, Amsterdam, N.Y., Amsterdam High School, who scored a goal and picked up four ground balls.

Between the pipes senior goalie Eric Randazzo, Tully, N.Y., Tully High School, frustrated the Pioneer offense throughout the contest with 15 saves and six ground balls picked up on the afternoon.
