Men's Lax Drops Season Opener to Bard College 8-3

Alex Acompora Scores Twice in Fighitng Tigers Loss To Bard College


Troy, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's lacrosse team opened their 2015 season on Wednesday afternoon by dropping a hard fought 8-3 decision to the Raptors of Bard College in non-league action in a game that was moved to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's (RPI) Renwyck Field due to weather conditions. With the loss the Fighting Tigers open the season 0-1 overall while the Raptors start the campaign at 1-0.

In their first outside action of the season, due to the unusual weather patterns in the northeast, the Fighting Tigers fell behind 4-0 at the end of the first period and trailed 6-1 at the half. The Raptors maintained their early advantage by out-shooting Cobleskill 36-14 on the afternoon and maintaining a decisive advantage in groundballs picked up at 34-to-22 on the afternoon.

Offensively the Orange & Black received a pair of fourth period goals from junior attackman Alex Acompora, Harrison, N.Y., Harrison High School, and their received their initial tally from freshman midfielder Anthony Yevoli, Amsterdam, N.Y., Amsterdam High School, in the second period on an assist from freshman midfielder Kyle Magdziuk, Syracuse, N.Y., Westhill High School.

Throughout the game Cobleskill received stellar play in net from senior goalie Eric Randazzo, Tully, N.Y., Tully High School, who recorded 12 saves on the afternoon while doing a solid job of positioning the team's defenders thought the contest.

The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Saturday March 7 when they travel to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. to take on the Dolphins of the College of Mount Saint Vincent in a game that has been moved to Mercy College's Mercy Field due to the weather with face-off at 2:00 p.m.
