Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's lacrosse team broke into the win column today posting a dramatic 18-17 victory over host College of Mount Saint Vincent in non-conference action in a game played at Mercy College's Mercy Field. The victory evens the Fighting Tigers overall record at 1-1 on the campaign while the Dolphins open the year at 0-1.
Cobleskill lead throughout the contest and entered the fourth period leading 17-12 when the Dolphins made a late charge to tie the game at 17-17 when junior attackman
Alex Acompora, Harrison, N.Y., Harrison High School, scored the game winner with 1:13 remaining in the contest to give the Orange & Black the win.
The Fighting Tigers newcomers led the way to the victory as Acompora posted an impressive effort with six goals and three assists while fellow freshman attackman
Logan Carsten, Chesterfield, N.H., Keene High School, made his season debut with an impressive five goal, one assist and two ground ball effort.
The Orange & Black also received multiple scoring efforts from: sophomore midfielder
David Meyers, Manorville, N.Y., Eastport South Manor High School, who scored a pair of goals to go with four assists and six ground balls, junior attackman
Chris Wright, Connetquot, N.Y., Connetquot High School, who scored three goals and sophomore midfielder
Liam Somers, Cambridge, N.Y., Cambridge High School, who notched a pair of goals.
On defense, Cobleskill received a strong effort from freshman midfielder
Kyle Magdziuk, Syracuse, N.Y., Westhill High School, who picked-up 10 ground balls on the afternoon and won 14-of-24 face-off attempts on the afternoon.
The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Wednesday March 11 when they travel to Alfred, N.Y. to face the Pioneers of Alfred State College in non-league action beginning at 4:00 p.m.
