Women's Softball Sweeps Visiting Cazenovia College 4-1 & 18-6

Fighting Tigers Overpower Visiting Wildcats in NEAC Action

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's softball team displayed a balance attack in a sweep of the visiting Wildcats of Cazenovia College on Wednesday afternoon by scores of 4-1 and 18-6 in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play. With the sweep the Fighting Tigers move to 12-1 overall on the season with a 6-0 mark conference record while the Wildcats fall to 7-12 overall including a 4-5 record versus league opponents.

In the opener Cobleskill broke open a 1-1 tied game in the bottom of the sixth inning when junior first baseman Erin Wadsworth, Valatie, N.Y., Ichabod Crane High School, singled home freshman pinch runner Ieasha Lopez-Gonzalez, Johnstown, N.Y., Johnstown High School, from second with the go ahead run then advanced to third on an error by the center fielder. Senior third baseman Julia Lull, St. Johnsville, N.Y., St. Johnsville High School, then drove in Wadsworth with a sacrifice fly to right for insurance and the Orange & Black then took advantage of a pair of Wildcat defensive lapses to push the final run across.

Freshman pitcher Morgan Nichols, Syracuse, N.Y., West Genesee High School, proved to be formidable in the circle for the home team allowing one unearned run in seven innings striking out five and walking two to improve to 5-0 on the year. Nichols was also 2-for-2 at the plate with a pair of doubles on the day.

In the second game the Wildcats jumped out to a 6-1 lead after the first inning then felt the wraith of a Cobleskill offensive attack that exploded for 17 runs over the next three innings highlighted by a nine run third inning which saw Erin Wadsworth belt a three-run homer, her fifth of the season, and freshman second baseman Jaimee Lord, Mechanicville, N.Y., Ballston Spa High School, blast a grand slam.

Lord finished game 3-for-4 with: a double, a grand slam home run and six RBI while Wadsworth was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Julia Lull was also a factor in the game going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI.

Erin Wadsworth pitched 3 1/3 innings of relief to record the victory to improve to 4-1 overall on the season for Cobleskill

The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Thursday April 16 when they travel to Marcy, N.Y. to face the Wildcats of SUNY Polytechnic Institute in NEAC doubleheader action beginning at 3:00 p.m.
