Fighting Tigers Split With Wildcats in NEAC North Division Action

Marcy, N.Y.:  The SUNY Cobleskill women's softball team took to the road on Wednesday afternoon to post a split with the Wildcats of SUNY Polytechnic Institute in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action winning the first game 4-1 then falling in the nightcap 6-5. With the split the Fighting Tigers move to 13-2 overall on the year including a 7-1 mark versus league opponents while SUNY Poly improves to 5-11 overall with a 3-3 conference record.

In the opener Cobleskill scored all the runs necessary for victory in the first inning when freshman first baseman Morgan Nichols, Syracuse, N.Y., West Genesee High School, blasted a two-run home run driving in junior catcher Madeline DeMilio, Valhalla, N.Y., Valhalla High School, who had walked to open the game.
Nichols finished the contest going 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored while DeMilio was 1-for-2 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored on the afternoon.

Junior pitcher Erin Wadsworth, Valatie, N.Y., Ichabod Crane High School, held the Wildcats in check over seven innings allowing only one run on seven hits; striking out 10 and walking only one hitter on the day.

In the nightcap, the Fighting Tigers were holding a 5-3 advantage heading into the bottom of the seventh inning when the Wildcats posted a three-run outburst to steal the victory and end Cobleskill's program record 12 game winning streak.

First baseman Erin Wadsworth led the team offensively going 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored while catcher Madeline DeMilio operating out of the lead-off spot was 3-for-4 with three runs scored.

Cobleskill will next be in action on Saturday April 18 when they travel to Cazenovia, N.Y. to face the Wildcats of Cazenovia College for a NEAC doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
