Fighting Tigers Drop NEAC Doubleheader to Penn College on Sunday

Defensive Lapses Hurt Fighting Tigers in NEAC Finale

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's softball team closed their North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) season on Sunday by dropping a pair of games to Penn College of Technology by scores of 6-4 and 5-4. The losses drop the Fighting Tigers to 21-6 overall on the season including a 15-5 mark in NEAC play while the Wildcats improve to 10-24 overall with an 8-10 record in conference play.

The Fighting Tigers struggled throughout the day defensively committing five errors which led two unearned runs in the opener and three unearned runs in the nightcap.

Cobleskill trailed 6-1 going into the seventh inning when with two outs freshman designated hitter Morgan Nichols, Syracuse, N.Y., West Genesee High School, clouted a three-run home run, her 11th of the year, to make the score 6-4. However that was as close as the Orange & Black could not convert with the tying run in the batter's box.

Freshman Emily Anger, Atlanta, N.Y., Wayland-Cohocton High School, was tagged with the loss allowing four earned runs in five innings of work to fall to 5-1 overall.
In the nightcap the Fighting Tigers led 4-3 going into the fifth inning when a pair of errors led to two unearned Wildcat runs giving them a 5-4 lead from which they never looked back.

Junior Erin Wadsworth, Valatie, N.Y., Ichabod Crane High School, was the hard luck loser surrendering only two earned runs on the day while striking out six and walking two in six innings of work to fall to 9-3 on the year.

The Fighting Tigers are tentatively scheduled to meet the Gators of Sage College for a pair of non-league contests on Tuesday April 28 beginning at 3:30 p.m. in Troy, N.Y.
