Fighting Tiger Softball Drops 6-1 Decision to Penn State Abington in NEAC Tournament Opener

Poor Defensive Effort Dooms Fighting Tigers to Defeat in Tournament Opener

Reading, Pa.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's softball team dropped a 6-1 decision to Penn State Abington in the opening round of the 2015 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championship Tournament hosted by Penn State Berks at the college's Hintz Athletic Field on Friday afternoon. The loss drops the Fighting Tigers to 21-8 overall on the season while the Nittany Lions improve to 19-13-1 on the campaign.

Defense proved to be the Fighting Tigers undoing in the contest as Cobleskill committed four errors which led to five unearned Nittany Lion runs deciding the contest in favor of the team from Pennsylvania.

Junior pitcher Erin Wadsworth, Valatie, N.Y., Ichabod Crane High School, took the loss despite allowing only one earned run while striking out 10 and walking no one in seven innings of work to fall to 9-4 overall on the season.

Offensively the Orange & Black could manage only six hits on the afternoon and scored their only run of the day on a fifth inning home run by freshman second baseman Jamie Lord, Mechanicville, N.Y., Ballston Spa High School, who was 1-for-3 on the afternoon.

Cobleskill will return to action on Saturday May 2 when they meet the Pheonix of Wilson College in an elimination game for the Fighting Tigers beginning at 1:00 p.m..
