Troy, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's lacrosse team opened their 2016 campaign with an impressive 12-8 victory over the Eagles of Green Mountain College in non-conference action on Saturday in a contest played on the turf at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Renwyck Field. The win puts the Fighting Tigers at 1-0 to open the season while the Eagles now fall to 0-2 overall with the loss.

Senior attackman Alex Acompora, Harrison, N.Y., Harrison High School, exploded for five goals and an assist while freshman attackman Hunter Purner, Glens Falls, N.Y., Christian Brothers Academy, started his college career with the Orange & Black with two goals in his debut. Cobleskill also received a stellar all-around performance from sophomore midfielder Kyle Magdziuk, Syracuse, N.Y., Westhill High School, who won 23-of-24 face-off opportunities to go with 11 groundballs, a goal, an assist and four caused turnovers on the afternoon.

Fighting Tiger junior goalkeeper John Montainiz, Lindenhurst, N.Y., Lindenhurst High School/Suffolk Community College, was also impressive in his first game with the program as the former junior college stand-out posted the victory with 16 saves to go with four groundballs picked up on the day.

Cobleskill will next be in action on Tuesday March 8^th when they travel to Riverdale, N.Y. to face the College of Mount Saint Vincent in non-conference action in a game to be played at Manhattan College in Manhattan, N.Y. beginning at 7:30 p.m.
