Riverdale, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's lacrosse team took to the road on Tuesday evening to post an impressive comeback 11-10 win over the College of Mount Saint Vincent in a non-league contest played at Manhattan College's home turf at Gaelic Park. The win improves the Fighting Tigers overall record to 2-0 on the year while the Dolphins drop to 0-2 overall on the campaign.
Trailing 7-4 going into the second half the Fighting Tigers exploded for four unanswered goals in the third period to take an 8-4 advantage as quartet of: senior attackman
Alex Acompora, Harrison, N.Y. Harrison High School, freshman attackman Hunter Pruner, Glens Falls, N.Y., Christian Brothers Academy, freshman midfielder
Javia Ludgood, Rochester, N.Y., Greece-Arcadia High School, and freshman midfielder
Jake McCarthy, Kings Park, N.Y., Kings Park High School, scored to give the visitors the lead for good.
The team extended their lead to 9-7 when Acompora scored at the 12:07 mark of the fourth period to give the Fighting Tigers a two-goal cushion from which they would never look back as the team's traded scores until the final horn.
Alex Acompora was the catalyst to the Cobleskill victory with three goals and two assists on the evening as the talented senior improved his season scoring totals to eight goals and three assists through two contests. The freshman tandem of
Jake McCarthy and
Hunter Purner were also key figures in the win as McCarthy scored three goals versus the Dolphins, defense with Purner chipping in a goal and an assist. Â
In the net junior goalie
John Montainiz, Lindenhurst, N.Y., Lindenhurst High School/Suffolk Community College, recorded the victory on the strength of a six save effort.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Saturday March 12
th when they travel to Newburgh, N.Y. to face Mount Saint Mary's College in non-league action at the Knight's Kaplan Field beginning at 12:00 p.m.
