Fighting Tigers Swept by Penn College Wildcats in NEAC Doubleheader 8-1 & 8-3

Cobleskill Defensive Lapses Hurt Fighting Tigers in Road Losses to Penn College

Williamsport, Pa.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's softball team found the road a rough one on Saturday afternoon as the Fighting Tigers dropped a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contests to host Penn College by scores of 8-1 and 8-3. With the losses Cobleskill falls to 0-12 overall on the campaign including a 0-8 conference mark while the Wildcats improve to 10-7 overall with a 4-0 record in NEAC play.

In the opener the Fighting Tigers fell behind 3-0 after the first inning and after cutting the deficit to 3-1 after three innings saw their defense betray them as three errors over the next three innings led to five Wildcat scores and the eventual margin of defeat.

Junior designated hitter Casey Haughney, Melrose, N.Y., Hoosick Valley High School, drove in Cobleskill's lone run in the contest going 2-for-3 at the plate. Senior left fielder Jessica Massi, Auburn, N.Y., Port Byron High School was also 2-for-3 at the plate for Cobleskill posting a pair of singles.

In the nightcap the Fighting Tiger defense once again turned pores as four errors led to four unearned runs in the 8-3 loss wasting a solid pitching effort by freshman right hander Sarah Munn, Athens, Pa., Athens Area High School, who posted a much needed complete game for the visitors pitching staff.

Casey Haughney continued her strong hitting performance by driving in all of the Cobleskill runs with a bases loaded one-out double in the third inning as part of a 1-for-2 effort with the bat.

The Orange & Black will next travel to Keuka Park, N.Y. on Sunday, April 17th, for an NEAC doubleheader with the Wolfpack of Keuka College with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
