Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's lacrosse team broke a two-game losing streak in impressive fashion on Monday afternoon by posting a 25-2 win over the visiting Eagles of Green Mountain College at the Fighting Tigers Soccer/Lax Complex. With the win Cobleskill improves to 3-2 overall on the season while the Eagles fall to 0-4 overall on the campaign.
After giving up the first score of the game, the home team blitzed the Eagles net for 13 first half goals and never looked back outshooting their opponents by a 51-to-31 margin, winning the face-off battle by a 21-to-10 tally and picking up 66 ground balls as compared to only 32 by the Green Mountain.
The Cobleskill attack was led by the tandem of sophomore attackman
Garrett Vigrass, Wallkill, N.Y., Wallkill High School, who scored a career high of seven goals, to go with two assists and six ground balls and sophomore midfielder
Sean Degnan, Monroe, N.Y., Monroe-Woodbury High School, who scored five goals, passed out three assists and picked-up a career high of 12 ground balls on the afternoon.
The Orange & Black also received a another strong effort from junior attackman,
Jeremy Mowrey, Johnstown, N.Y., Johnstown High School/Herkimer Community College, who scored three goals and passed out two assists along with a solid game from sophomore attackman
Edwin Martinez, Brentwood, N.Y., Brentwood High School, who scored two goals and passed out three assists.
Defensively senior goalkeeper
John Montaniz, Lindenhurst, N.Y., Lindenhurst High School/Suffolk Community College, posted the victory on the strength of nine saves and two ground balls while fellow goalie senor
Cameron Loomis, Morris, Conn., South Kent School, held the Eagles scoreless over the last 18:24 of the game by posting four saves.
The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Wednesday April 5
th when they travel to Riverdale, N.Y. to face the Dolphins of the College of Mount Saint Vincent in non-conference action beginning at 4:30 p.m.
