Purchase, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's lacrosse team opened the 2018 season on Tuesday taking to the road to drop a 9-8 decision to the host Panthers of SUNY Purchase in non-conference action. With the defeat the Fighting Tigers open the season with a 0-1 record while the Panthers are now 1-1 on the campaign.
After trailing 6-3 at the half, Cobleskill battled back to take an 8-7 lead with 4:25 remaining in regulation after junior attackman Sean Degnan, Monroe, N.Y. Monroe-Woodbury High School, tallied a pair of fourth quarter goals to give the Orange & Black the lead.
The Panthers tied the contest at 8-8 with 3:36 left to play and the game looked headed to overtime until a Cobleskill defensive breakdown allowed Purchase junior midfielder Dylan Gethicker, Lime Lake, N.Y., Pioneer High School, to find the back of the net with only nine seconds left on the clock to give the home squad the victory.
Sean Degnan turned in a spectacular effort in defeat for the Orange & Black with four goals and an assist while sophomore midfielder Kiran Tierney, Marcellus, N.Y., Marcellus High School, added a pair of goals.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Thursday March 8
th when they travel to La Plume, Pa. to face the Giants of Keystone College in non-league action with face-off set for 6:00 p.m.
