Cobleskill Softball Sweeps Home Opener Versus Southern Vermont College

Cobleskill, N.Y.:  The SUNY Cobleskill women's softball team finally were able to host their much weather delay home opener on Tuesday afternoon posting an impressive sweep of the visiting Mountaineers of Southern Vermont College in non-league play by scores of 7-1 and 15-4. With the sweep the Fighting Tigers move to 4-8 overall while the Mountaineers are now 1-19 on the season to date.

In the opener, freshman southpaw Rachel Hall, Greenwich, N.Y., Greenwich High School, controlled the Mountaineer bats allowing only one earned run scattering only four hits while striking out three and walking no one on the afternoon.

At the plate the top of the Fighting Tiger order proved lethal with sophomore center fielder Brianna Murphy, Yonkers, N.Y., Yonkers Montessori Academy, going 2-for-2 in the lead-off spot with a pair of walks, two runs scored, a RBI and two stolen bases including a steal of home while junior shortstop Nicole Flint, Union Springs, N.Y., Cato-Meridian High School/Monroe Community College,  was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored, a stolen base and two RBI.

In the nightcap the Cobleskill bats exploded for 15 runs and 11 hits to end the contest after only five innings.

Senior left fielder, Mackenzie Holbert, Sauquoit, N.Y., New Hartford High School, led the way going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and four RBI with junior second baseman Georgianna Crisci, Walden, N.Y., Valley Central High School, chipping in a 2-for-3 effort which included her first home run of the season a run scored and two RBI in the rout.

Sophomore hurler Katerina Weingarten, Carlisle, N.Y., Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, went four innings to improve to 1-0 on the season striking out five and walking two to claim the win.

Cobleskill will next be in action on Thursday April 12th when they host the Gators of Sage College in non-conference action at Fighting Tiger Park with first pitch scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
