Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's softball team began a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) home stand on Saturday dropping a pair of league games to the conference leading Nittany Lions of Penn State Berks at Fighting Tiger Park by scores of 8-0 and13-8. With the losses the Fighting Tigers fall to 6-13 overall including a 2-8 mark in NEAC action while the Nittany Lions are now 17-7-1 overall including a 12-0 mark in conference action.
In the opener the Fighting Tigers had very little success versus Nittany Lion junior ace Jess Rozick, Bensalem, Pa., Bucks County Technical High School, who scattered five hits in the game while striking out 13 and walking only one.
Fighting Tiger freshman hurler Rachel Hall, Greenwich, N.Y., Greenwich High School, was the sole Cobleskill hitter to figure Rozick out going 3-for-3 in the contest.
In the nightcap the Fighting Tigers and Nittany Lions engaged in an old fashion slugfest with four ties and five lead changes due to power hitting and defensive miscues.
Junior shortstop Nicole Flint, Union Springs, N.Y., Cato-Meridian High School/Monroe Community College, led the home team going 2-for-3 with a double, a two-run homer, two runs scored and three runs batted in while freshman pitcher Edyliese Aquino, Stanford, Conn., Westhill High School, went 1-for -3 with her first career home run in the game.
Cobleskill will return to action on Sunday April 22 when they host The College of Saint Elizabeth for a NEAC doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
