Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's softball team raised a few eyebrows on Sunday afternoon splitting their North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) a doubleheader with the previously unbeaten in league play Eagles of The College of Saint Elizabeth at Fighting Tiger Park taking the opener by a score of 2-1 then dropping the nightcap 12-2. With the split the Fighting Tigers move to 7-14 overall including a 3-9 mark in NEAC action while the Eagles are now 15-9 overall including a 9-1 record in league action.
In the first game, Fighting Tiger freshman lefty Rachel Hall, Greenwich, N.Y., Greenwich High School, prevailed over Eagle freshman righty Alyssa Hampton, Manchester, N.J., Manchester Township High School, in a classic pitchers dual allowing one earned run over seven innings scattering five hits striking out six and walking only one to improve to 4-6 overall on the year.
Cobleskill scored all the runs they would need in the first inning when senior third baseman Hannah Hoffman, Troy, N.Y., Averill Park High School/Hudson Valley Community College, doubled home sophomore center fielder Brianna Murphy, Yonkers, N.Y., Yonkers Montessori Academy, who had led off with a single and junior shortstop Nicole Flint, Union Springs, N.Y., Cato-Meridian High School, who had doubled.
Hoffman finished the day going 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of RBI for the Orange & Black.
In the second game, a series of defensive miscues and errors staked the visitors to an early 11-2 lead from which they never looked back.
Offensively for the home team, sophomore third baseman Brianna Becker, Euless, Texas, Trinity High School, went 2-for-3 with a run batted in while first baseman Rachel Hall was also 2-for-3 in the contest.
The Orange & Black will return to action on Tuesday April 24 when they host Keuka College for a NEAC doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
