Morrisville, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's softball team made their final North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) road trip of the season on Friday afternoon traveling to Morrisville State College to blank a pair of game with the Mustangs by scores of 13-10 and 10-2. With the Blank the Fighting Tigers are now 9-16 overall with a 5-11 mark in league action while the Mustangs are now 4-20 overall with a 1-15 record in league play.
The opening game proved to be a roller coaster ride as the Fighting Tigers could not hold a 5-2 lead after four innings highlighted by a first inning two-run homer off the bat of junior shortstop Nicole Flint, Union Springs, N.Y., Cato-Meridian High School/Monroe Community College, as the Mustangs rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take 6-5 lead courtesy of several Fighting Tiger errors.
Cobleskill then once again rallied in the top of the sixth inning for three runs in the top of the sixth courtesy of a two-run single by sophomore centerfielder Brianna Murphy, Yonkers, N.Y., Yonkers Montessori Academy, which gave the Orange & Black an 8-6 advantage. However in the bottom of the inning the Mustangs once again capitalized on a pair of errors to push four runs across and take a 10-8 lead into the seventh.
The Fighting Tigers then struck for five runs in the top of the inning taking the lead for good when junior second baseman Georgiana Crisi, Newburgh, N.Y., Valley Central High School, singled home the go-ahead run with two outs.
Freshman left-hander Rachel Hall, Greenwich, N.Y., Greenwich High School, posted the win overcoming errors and defensive miscues to allow five earned runs over seven innings striking out seven hitters while walking no one to run her record to 5-7 overall on the season.
At the plate the top of the batting order was impressive: with lead-off hitter Brianna Murphy going 2-for-4 with a pair of walks, two runs scored and a pair of RBI, Nicole Flint going 1-for-4 with a homer, a walk, two runs scored runs scored and senior third baseman Hannah Hoffman, Troy, N.Y., Averill Park High School/Hudson Valley Community College, going 2-for-6 with a pair of doubles, a run scored and two RBI. Georgiana Crisi was also impressive with the bat going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI in the win.
In the finale, sophomore pitcher Katerina Weingarten, Carlisle, N.Y., Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, improved her record to 2-1 on the season by limiting the Mustangs to two earned runs on eight hits while striking out three and walking none.
The Fighting Tiger offense put the game out of reach in the first inning erupting for five runs to start the game.
Offensively the visitors were led by shortstop Nicole Flint who continued her hot hitting going 3-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI and by first baseman Rachel Hall who was 3-for-4 with three RBI on the heels of a first game which saw her go 3-for-5 with a double and a RBI. Junior right fielder Quesha Sells, Cobleskill, N.Y., Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, was also a factor at bat in the win going 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI.
Cobleskill are next scheduled to meet the Wildcats of SUNY Polytechnic Institute for a pair of NEAC games on Sunday April 29
th at Fighting Tiger Park with first pitch slated for 1:00 p.m.
