Clermont, Fla.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's softball team suffered a pair of losses on day two of the 2019 The Spring Games losing by a 6-0 margin to the Fighting Scots of The College of Wooster from Wooster, Mass., prior to closing the day with a 6-3 defeat to the Green Knights of Saint Norbert College from Green Bay, Wis. With the losses the Fighting Tigers are now 0-4 overall to start the year.
In the opener Fighting Scots pitching got the better of the Fighting Tiger offense holding the Orange & Black to only three hits in the game while using a fifth run outburst in the top of the third inning to put the game out of reach.
Freshman second baseman
Alyssa Villielm, Rifton, N.Y., Kingston High School, went 2-for-3 from the lead-off spot for Cobleskill while senior catcher
Gabrielle Danthine, Sloansville, N.Y., Schoharie High School, was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk at the plate in the game.
Freshman pitcher
Victoria Decker, Stone Ridge, N.Y., Rondout Valley High School, took the loss going six innings allowing four earned runs on 10 hits.
Against the Knights in the second game the Fighting Tigers committed six errors to stake St. Norbert to a 6-0 lead after the first three innings from which there was no recovering.
Cobleskill made its offensive move in the top of the fourth inning striking for three runs highlighted by a two-run homer by sophomore designated hitter
Edyliese Aquino, Stamford, Conn., Westhill High School, and an RBI single by catcher
Gabrielle Danthine.
Sophomore pitcher
Rachel Hall, Greenwich, N.Y., Greenwich High School, absorbed the loss to fall to 0-2 on the season despite going six innings and allowing no earned runs striking out three and walking no one.
At the plate, Aquino finished the day 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored while Danthine was 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and a RBI.
The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Wednesday March 20 at the 2019 Spring Games when they face the Knights of Carlton College from Northfield, Minn., beginning at 12:00 p.m. prior to taking on the Continentals of Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. at 2:00 p.m.
