Cobleskill Comeback Effort Falls Short in 11-9 Loss to Delhi Broncos

Oneonta, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's lacrosse team continued their extended spring break road trip on Tuesday afternoon losing a hard hitting 11-9 decision to the Broncos or SUNY Delhi 11-9 on the turf at SUNY Oneonta's Red Dragon Stadium. With the loss the Fighting Tigers fall to 1-3 overall while the Broncos improve to 5-2 on the season.

After Delhi moved out to a 7-3 halftime advantage;  Cobleskill came storming back in the third period scoring five straight goals to take an 8-7 lead with 5:27 left in the stanza, when junior Ed White, Utica, N.Y., Thomas R. Proctor/Herkimer Community College, broke through the Bronco defense to score unassisted.

However the Broncos closed the period with a pair of goals to take a 9-8 lead into the fourth period.

The Fighting Tigers tied the contest for the final time with 9:19 left in regulation when they converted on a man-down situation with Ed White finding senior Edwin Martinez, Brentwood, N.Y., Brentwood High School, weakside to make it 9-9.

Unfortunately for Cobleskill the Broncos converted on a man-up situation with 4:00 left in regulation then added an insurance goal with 1:23 left to play to secure the victory.

Edwin Martinez scored three goals on the afternoon while Ed White tallied twice and dished out three assists to lead the Fighting Tigers offensively. The Orange & Black also received two goals and an assist from senior attackman Sean Degnan, Monroe, N.Y., Monroe-Woodbury High School, and from junior midfielder Kiernan Tierney, Marcellus, N.Y., Marcellus High School.
