Fighting Tiger Men's Lax Tops Keystone College 17-3 in 2019 Season Opener

Cobleskill Men's Lax Chops Down Keystone Giants by 17-3 Margin to Open Year


La Plume, Pa.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's lacrosse team opened the 2019 season in style on Saturday afternoon by posting an impressive 17-3 road victory over the host Giants of Keystone College. With the win the Fighting Tigers open the campaign at 1-0 while Keystone is now 0-2 overall on the season to date.

The Fighting Tigers came out aggressively posting a 7-1 lead after the first quarter and an 11-3 advantage at the half. Cobleskill then held the host Giants scoreless in the second half allowing them only nine shots in the half.

The Cobleskill offense fired 53 shots at the Giants net on the day while allowing Keystone only 18. The Orange & Black also played strong defense forcing 26 turnovers and three shot clock violations on the afternoon while holding a 43-23 advantage in ground balls picked up.

Senior attackman Sean Degnan, Monroe, N.Y., Monroe-Woodbury High School, led the Cobleskill attack with four goals and four assists on the afternoon with junior midfielder Kieran Tierney, Marcellus, N.Y., Marcellus High School, adding four goals and an assist. Junior attackman/midfielder Ed White, Utica, N.Y., Thomas R. Proctor High School/Herkimer Community College, had an impressive debut with three goals and five assists while senior attackman Edwin Martinez, Brentwood, N.Y., Brentwood High School, chipped in three goals.

Defensively the Fighting Tigers were led by senior goalie Willie Wilson, Geneva, N.Y., Geneva High School/Tompkins-Cortland Community College, who recorded seven saves, picked-up five ground balls and force a turnover and by sophomore defender Nick Dominic, Pittsford, N.Y., Pittsford High School, who recorded 12 ground balls to go with seven forced turnovers on the afternoon.

Cobleskill will next be in action on Wednesday March 13th when they travel to Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. for a non-conference meeting with the Raptors of Bard College beginning at 7:00 p.m.
