Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill softball team returned to action after a nine-day weather induced lay-off to split a pair of games with the visiting Wildcats of Cazenovia College in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play taking the first game of the pair by a score of 7-0 then dropping the second game to the visitors by an 11-10 margin at Fighting Tiger Park. With the split the Fighting Tigers are now 12-12 overall on the year including an 9-5 mark in NEAC play while the Wildcats move to 9-13 overall with a 5-7 record in conference action.
In the opener sophomore left-hander
Rachel Hall, Greenwich, N.Y., Greenwich High School, threw her fifth shutout victory of the season for the Orange & Black going a full seven innings scattering eight hits to improve her season record to 8-5 on the year.
At the plate the Fighting Tigers scored a pair of runs in the third inning to put the game out of reach on RBI singles by freshman first baseman
Arielle Kranbuhl, Boonville, N.Y., Adirondack High School, who finished the game 1-for-3 with a RBI and senior catcher
Gabrielle Danthine, Sloansville, N.Y., Schoharie High School, who went 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and a RBI.
Cobleskill also received contributions offensively from freshman shortstop
Megan Gilligan, East Chatham, N.Y., East Chatham High School, who was 2-for-3 with a triple, a run scored and a RBI and from senior third baseman
Mackenzie Holbert, Sauquoit, N.Y., New Hartford High School/Herkimer Community College, who went 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and a pair of RBI.
In the nightcap, the Fighting Tigers fell behind early by a score of 8-5 as three Cobleskill errors and five walks helped the Wildcats score five unearned runs and helping the visitors to maintain their advantage throughout the contest.
The Fighting Tigers staged a furious comeback effort slugging three home runs in the game as: starting pitcher/first baseman Arielle Kranbul slugged a two-run shot, her second of the season, as part of a 2-for-4 effort with two runs scored and two RBI, freshman relief pitcher
Victoria Decker, Stone Ridge, N.Y., Rondout Valley High School, hit a solo shot going 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a RBI while catcher
Gabrielle Danthine hit a two-run homer going 1-for-3 with a run scored and three RBI. Shortstop
Megan Gilligan was also a strong factor at the plate going 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, a run scored and two RBI on the day for the team.
Cobleskill will return to NEAC action on Tuesday April 23
rd when they host the Mustangs of Morrisville State for a pair of league games at Fighting Tiger Park beginning at 3:30 p.m.
