Fighting Tiger Softball Sweeps Morrisville State 12-4 & 13-0 to Close in on NEAC Tournament Bid

Freshman Pitcher Arielle Kranbuhl Tosses First Collegiate No-Hitter in Nightcap Versus Morrisville State Mustangs

 

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill softball team took important steps in their drive towards the upcoming North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play-offs on Tuesday afternoon sweeping the Mustangs of Morrisville State in league action by scores of 12-8 and 13-0 at Fighting Tiger Park. With the sweep the Fighting Tigers improve to 14-12 overall with an 11-5 record in NEAC play while the Mustangs are now 1-29 overall including a 1-13 conference record.

After falling behind 3-0 early the Fighting Tiger offense exploded scoring 12 runs on 11 hits at the plate including four for extra bases while featuring an aggressive a running attack that recorded five stolen bases in the victory.

Freshman center fielder Jillian Nitchman, Ballston Spa, N.Y., Ballston Spa High School, was 2-for-5 at the plate with a double, a home run, two runs scored and five RBI to lead Cobleskill with sophomore pitcher Rachel Hall, Greenwich, N.Y., Greenwich High School, helping her own cause by going 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and four RBI in the win.

The Fighting Tigers also received strong contributions from freshman second baseman Alyssa Villielm, Rifton, N.Y., Kingston High School, in the lead-off spot going 1-for-3 with a walk, a double, a stolen base and three runs scored and from sophomore left fielder Quesha Sells, Cobleskill, N.Y., Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, who went 3-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base, a RBI and four runs scored from the second spot in the batting order.

On the mound, lefty starter Rachel Hall overcame a rocky start to post the win striking out two and walking no one to improve her record to 9-5 overall on the season.
In the second game the Fighting Tigers scored 12 of their 13 runs in the fourth and fifth innings pounding out 15 hits including four for extra bases.

Second baseman Alyssa Villielm continued her hot hitting from the lead-off spot going 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored and five RBI while left fielder Quesha Sells went 3-for-4 with a pair of triples, both in the third innings, one run scored and one RBI.  Designated hitter Rachel Hall was a perfect 2-for-2 in the game including a pair of RBI with freshman pitcher Arielle Kranbuhl, Boonville, N.Y., Adirondack High School, going 2-for-3 with a double, a runs scored and a RBI.

Arielle Kranbuhl was also a dominate factor on the mound for the Orange & Black tossing her first collegiate no-hitter striking out seven Mustang batters and walking only one to improve her record to 4-3 overall on the season.   

Cobleskill will next be in action on Thursday April 25th when they travel to Schenectady, N.Y. to meet the Engineers of Union College for a non-league doubleheader at Alexander Field beginning at 3:30 p.m.
