Fighting Tiger Lax Drops Season Opener on the Road to Elmira College 7-5

SUNY Cobleskill Laxmen Fall at Elmira College to Soaring Eagles 7-5

Elmira, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's lacrosse team opened their 2020 campaign by dropping a 7-5 decision to the host Soaring Eagles of Elmira College in a game played on the turf at Elmira Notre Dame High School on Saturday afternoon. With the loss the Fighting Tigers open the season 0-1 overall while Elmira moves to 2-2 overall on the year.

After trailing the entire contest the Fighting Tigers cut the Soaring Eagles' lead to 6-5 with 2:27 left in regulation when freshman midfielder Giovanni Bevaqua, Newton, N.J., Newton High School, scored unassisted.

However that was as close a Cobleskill would come as the home team added their final goal with 40 seconds left to play to decide the issue.

Offensively for the Fighting Tigers, the senior class did the bulk of the damage as senior midfielder James Glass, Saugerties, N.Y., Saugerties High School, had two goals and an assist, senior midfielder Kieran Tierney, Marcellus, N.Y., Marcellus High School, and senior attackman Devin Corey, Cornwall, N.Y., Cornwall High School, each scored a goal with Giovanni Bevaqua adding a goal and an assist on the afternoon

Defensively junior defender Nick Dominic, Pittsford, N.Y., Pittsford High School, picked-up 15 ground balls and forced six turnovers on the afternoon while freshman goalkeeper Christopher Roman, Vernon, N.Y., Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School, had 11 saves and two ground balls on the afternoon.

Cobleskill will next be in action on Wednesday March 11th when they travel to Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. for a non-league game versus the Raptors of Bard College with face-off scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
