SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tiger Recap for the Week of November 14, 2021


The SUNY Cobleskill men's cross country team closed the 2021 season Saturday at the NCAA Division III Niagara Regional Championships hosted by SUNY Geneseo at the National War Plane Museum in Geneseo, N.Y. The Fighting Tigers posted a team score of 195 points to place sixth overall in the field of 26 teams. Three Cobleskill runners earned All-Region Team honors led by sophomore Nick Logan, Queensbury, N.Y., Queensbury High School, who placed 20th overall in the 159-runner field by covering the muddy 8000-meter loop in a time of 26:00.2. Cobleskill also received All-Regional efforts from first-year Eamonn Sullivan, Wappingers Falls, N.Y., Fordham Preparatory School, who finished 32nd overall in 26:20.2 and from senior Dillon Vandemortel, Newark, N.Y., Newark High School, in 33rd place in 26:21.3.

The Fighting Tiger men's swimming & diving team continued their winning ways on Saturday defeating the Generals of Herkimer Community College by a 71-31 margin at an event hosted by the Wildcats of Cazenovia College. With the victory, the team moves 4-0 on the year versus head-to-head competition. Cobleskill swept both of the relay events as the team of: first-year Jason Halasy, Brooklyn, N.Y., Midwood High School, senior Dan Mullen, Oswego, N.Y., Mexico High School, junior Zach Walters, West Seneca, N.Y, West Seneca High School, and junior Chris Sypherertt, Laurelton, N.Y., John Browne High School, took the 200-Yard Medley Relay in 2:05.34 and the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay in 1:42.88.

The women's basketball team won one-of-three contests during the week defeating the visiting Colonials of Western Connecticut State University on Monday 57-47 before dropping a pair of games at the SUNY Plattsburgh Cardinal Classic over the weekend losing to the host Cardinals 71-60 on Friday and to the Bears of SUNY Potsdam on Saturday 61-55. Junior Anna Post, Bovina Center, N.Y., Delaware Academy, averaged 11.1 points and 10.9 rebounds per game during the week as the Fighting Tigers moved to 1-3 overall on the season.

The Cobleskill women's swimming & diving team split a pair of decisions at a triangular meet hosted by the Wildcats of Cazenovia College and featuring the Generals of Herkimer Community College on Saturday. The Fighting Tigers defeated the Generals by a 92-11 margin while losing to the host Wildcats by a score of 111-87 to improve to 2-3 overall on the season versus head-to-head competition. Individually senior Katherine Noncarrow, Northern Highlands Regional High School, won the 1000-Yard Freestyle in 12:44.99 and the 100-Yard Butterfly in 1:11.10.

The women's cross country team closed the 2021 season Saturday at the NCAA Division III Niagara Regional Championships hosted by SUNY Geneseo at the National War Plane Museum. Competing as an individual Fighting Tiger first-year runner Jenna Swyers, Peru, N.Y., Peru High School, placed 118th overall in the field of 142 runners by completing the 6000-meter course in a time of 28:59.1.
 
The Fighting Tiger men's basketball team lost three road contests during the week, dropping their season opener to the Spartans of Castleton University in Castleton, Vt. 109-78 prior to traveling to Oneonta, N.Y. over the weekend to lose twice at the Quality Inn Tournament hosted by SUNY Oneonta. Cobleskill lost on Friday to the host Red Dragons by a score of 79-62 before dropping a 104-66 decision to the Lancers of Worcester State University on Saturday.  Senior forward Juwan Malone, Brooklyn, N.Y., Brooklyn Collegiate High School, averaged 16.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game during the week as Cobleskill opened at 0-3 overall on the year.

The hunt seat equestrian team returned to action competing a pair of Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 2 Region 3 shows hosted by Morrisville State College at the Mustang's college equestrian center. The Fighting Tigers posted a team total of 23 points in the first show to place sixth in a nine-team field then scored 26 points in the finale to place fifth overall versus a nine-team field at the event. Cobleskill received a standout effort at the event from senior Emily Carey, Tri-Valley High School, who on Sunday placed first in Limited Fences and second limited Flats to earn Reserve Point Rider honors at the event.
