Fighting Tiger Softball Splits With SUNY Delhi in NAC Action

SUNY Cobleskill Softball Splits With Division Leading SUNY Delhi

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's softball team returned home on Tuesday afternoon as the Fighting Tigers split with the Western Division Broncos of SUNY Delhi in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action at Fighting Tiger Park taking the first game by a score of 8-7 prior to losing the finale by an 8-0 margin.  With the split the Fighting Tigers move to 3-4 overall including a 1-3 mark in league action while the Broncos are now 7-1 on the year to date including a 5-1 conference record.

In the opener after five lead changes, the home team used timely hitting and aggressive base running to score a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to claim the victory and give freshman reliever Abrianna Carr, Tucson, Az., Canyon Del Toro High School/Taft College, her first intercollegiate victory as the Cobleskill rookie worked four innings of relief allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out one hitter and walking no one.

Offensively the Orange & Black were led by sophomore right fielder Alyssa Villielm, Rifton, N.Y., Kingston High School, who went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles, two RBI and a run scored and by junior second baseman Aubrie Marx, Rotterdam, N.Y., Mohanasen High School, went 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore centerfielder Jillian Nitchman, Ballston Spa, N.Y., Ballston Spa High School, was also a factor at the plate going 4-for-4 with two runs scored as was junior designated hitter Maya Davies, Binghamton, N.Y., Chenango Valley High School/Onondaga Community College, who was 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.

In the nightcap, the Broncos led 8-0 after three innings and never looked back as Delhi sophomore pitcher Katelynn Rose, Hyde Park, N.Y., Franklin D. Roosevelt High School, allowed only three hits in the shutout victory.
Cobleskill once again received hits from centerfielder Jillian Nitchman who went 1-for-2 with a double and from third baseman Maya Davies who was also 1-for-2 with a double.

The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Wednesday afternoon when they are once again slated to host the Broncos for a NAC doubleheader at Fighting Tiger Park beginning at 3:00 p.m.

Due to current local pandemic protocols SUNY Cobleskill is not currently allowing spectators at Fighting Tiger home contests however home contests can be viewed on-line on the Fighting Tiger Sports Network at https://boxcast.tv/channel/f1fop7kpzza6teekk2gh.
