Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's softball team closed out their season series with North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Western Division rival SUNY Delhi at Fighting Tiger Park the first game by a score of 4-1 before taking the nightcap by a 14-6-0 tally. Â With the sweep the Fighting Tigers move to 5-4 overall including a 3-3 mark in league action while the Broncos are now 7-3 on the year to date including a 5-3 conference record.
In the opener Cobleskill sophomore pitcher
Victoria Decker, Stone Ridge, N.Y., Rondout Valley High School, allowed the Broncos only one unearned run on one hit on the day striking out one but walking no one to earn the victory.
On offense the Orange & Black were led by senior left fielder
Megan Gilligan, East Chatham, N.Y., Chatham High School, who went 2-for-2 in the game with three RBI and by senior
Edyliese Aquino, Stamford, Conn., Westhill High School, who belted her first home run of the season as part of a 2-for-3 outing.
In the nightcap the Cobleskill offense exploded for nine runs in the first inning and never looked back as sophomore centerfielder
Jillian Nitchman, Ballston Spa, N.Y., Ballston Spa High School, went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI with junior third baseman
Maya Davies, Binghamton, N.Y., Chenango Valley High School/Onondaga Community College, also going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI.
Edyliese Aquino pitched the team to the victory going five inning and allowing only two earned runs, striking out two and walking only one. Â Â
The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Wednesday April 21 when they travel to Cazenovia, N.Y. for a NAC doubleheader versus the Wildcats of Cazenovia College beginning at 3:00 p.m.
