Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team has been ranked second in the 2022-23 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Western Division Pre-Season Poll by the league's coaches. In their first full season of NAC membership in 2021-22, the Fighting Tigers finished 13-12 overall including an 8-4 record in conference play while qualifying for the league's play-offs.
With the new season at hand, fourth-year Head Coach
Megan Bowman believes that the Fighting Tigers are more than ready for the upcoming campaign and will have depth, versatility and size on the roster this season.
"This is the most excited my coaching staff and I have been about the depth of our team and the strength of our recruiting class. Practices have been extremely competitive and it has been clear since October 15 we can score from every position and can play quick with guards that can score from all over or can slow things down and put four six-footers on the court at once. I could go on and on about each of our first-years and returners, but it will be clear to opposing teams how deep we are in lineups, starting rotations, and distributed scoring throughout the course of the season."
Among the returners the Fighting Tigers will be led by the team's returning leading scorer sophomore guard
Annie Canales, North Adams, Mass., Hoosac Valley High School, who averaged 11.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game and sophomore guard
Taylor Meacham, Berne, N.Y., Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School, who averaged 6.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 41.1% from the field and 70.7% from the free throw line. Sophomore center/forward
Logan Thayne, Hoosic Falls, N.Y., Hoosic Falls High School, will also return this season after averaging 7.5 points, and 3.8 rebounds per game in limited action.
The recruiting class will be spearheaded by first-year guard/forward
Audriana Hollister, Mooers Forks, N.Y., Northeast Clinton High School, first-year guard/forward
Kayleigh Bryant, Schenevus, N.Y., Schenevus High School, and first-year forward/center
Emily Satterday, Latham, N.Y., Shaker High School, who will give the line-up more flexibility with the ability to play multiple positions.
Cobleskill will open the season on Tuesday November 8 when they host the Dutchwomen of Union College for a non-league contest beginning at 5:30 p.m. Â
