Fighting Tiger Softball Falls Twice at the 2022 The Spring Games to Trinity College and Manchester University

SUNY Cobleskill Softball Drops Two at 2022 Spring Games on Monday

Clermont, Florida: The SUNY Cobleskill women's softball team suffered a pair of defeats at the 2022 The Spring Games on Monday as the Fighting Tigers fell to Trinity College of Connecticut by a 7-5 margin then dropped a 10-4 decision to Manchester University of Indiana. With the losses the Fighting Tigers fall to 0-3 on the road trip.

In the opener four Cobleskill errors led to four unearned runs for the Bantams as Trinity broke open a 5-5 tie with runs in the sixth and seventh innings to make a hard-luck loser out of senior hurler Victoria Decker, Stone Ridge, N.Y., Rondout Valley High School, who went the full seven innings allowing only three earned runs striking out five while walking only two.

At the plate the Fighting Tiger offense was led by senior centerfielder Alyssa Villielm, Rifton, N.Y., Kingston High School, who went 3-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI from the lead-off spot and from junior catcher Ashley Covert, Castile, N.Y., Letchworth High School, who went 2-for-3 with a RBI.

In the second game versus Manchester University, Cobleskill trailed 3-2 going into the bottom of the third when the Spartans broke the contest open with a seven-run inning from which they never looked back as the Indianans pounded out nine hits to go with eight walks to secure the victory.

The Fighting Tiger offense was led once again by shortstop Maya Davies who went 1-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBI and by left fielder Alyssa Villielm who was 2-for-4 with a double from the lead-off spot. Sophomore catcher Emily Lutz, Ellenville, N.Y., Ellenville High School, was also a factor at the plate going 1-for-3 with a double and a RBI.

Cobleskill is tentatively scheduled for an off-day on Tuesday although the team is looking to find a replacement game for the game they lost due to travel difficulties. Barring a replacement contest the Fighting Tigers are scheduled to play on Wednesday March 23 when they meet the Hornets of Kalamazoo College for a game at 2:00 p.m. before closing their trip with a game versus the Panthers of SUNY Old Westbury with first pitch at 4:00 p.m.
