Clermont, Florida: The SUNY Cobleskill women's softball team closed out a long day to end their Florida road trip by splitting a pair of afternoon games at the 2022 The Spring Games losing to the Hornets of Kalamazoo College by a 5-1 margin then pounding the Panthers of SUNY Old Westbury by a score of 9-0 in their third game of the day. With the split the Fighting Tigers will return home with a 1-5 overall record to open the season.
In the opener the Hornets broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth inning when they tacked on three runs to extend a 2-0 lead into a 5-0 margin. Kalamazoo then got out of a one out bases loaded situation in the top of the seventh inning to preserve the victory.
Senior shortstop
Maya Davies, Binghamton, N.Y., Chenango Valley High School/Onondaga Community College, scored the lone Fighting Tiger run, going 1-for-3 in the game, on a RBI groundout by sophomore pinch hitter

In the road trip's final contest or the day and event, the Orange & Black's offense rocked Panther pitching for nine runs on eight hits while drawing a season high of six walks in the contest.
Leading the Fighting Tigers at the plate was senior left fielder
Alyssa Villielm, Rifton, N.Y., Kingston High School, who went 2-for-2 from the lead-off spot with a walk, a stolen base, two runs scored and three RBI and junior third baseman
Ashley Covert, Castile, N.Y., Letchworth High School, who was 1-for-1 with two walks, two runs scored along with a pair of RBI.
Cobleskill also received productive at-bats from senior center fielder
Jillian Nitchman, Ballston Spa, N.Y., Ballston Spa High School, who went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI and from shortstop
Maya Davies who continued her strong showing at the plate going 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBI.
Senior pitcher
Victoria Decker, Stone Ridge, N.Y., Rondout Valley High School, was dominate in the circle for the Fighting Tigers throwing a complete game shutout allowing only one hit over the course of five innings striking out eight and allowing no walks to improve to 1-2 overall on the season. Ā
Cobleskill will return to action on Tuesday March 29 when they host the Gators of Russell Sage College at Fighting Tiger Park for a pair of non-conference contests with first pitch at 3:00 p.m.
