Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's lacrosse team shot down the visiting Eagles of Husson University 12-10 on Friday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action to win their home opener for the first time since 2017 and end the team's 13-game losing streak that dates back to April 19 of 2019. With the victory the Fighting Tigers are now 1-2 overall on the season with a 1-1 record in NAC play while the Eagles fall to 3-8 with a 0-2 mark in league action.
In a physical hard-hitting conference contest, the Fighting Tiger defense held tough as the Eagles took 62 shots on the afternoon while putting 38 of those attempts on goal.
Cobleskill first-year goalie
John Williams, Smyra, Del., Smyra High School, was the key to the Orange & Black's defensive effort with 28 saves and four ground balls on the afternoon to secure the victory.
Offensively the Fighting Tigers were led by sophomore attackman
Gregory Neumann, Accord, N.Y., Rondout Valley High School, who scored four times on the afternoon to go with five ground balls and by sophomore midfielder
Sean D'Amaro, Northport, N.Y., Northport High School, who scored three times in the victory. Junior midfielder
Giovanni Bevacqua, Newton, N.J., Newton High School, was also a factor in the victory with two goals, three assists and two ground balls on the day.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Sunday March 27 when they host the Mariners of the Maine Maritime Academy in a game to be played at SUNY Oneonta's All College Track & Field with face-off scheduled for 12:00 p.m. Â
