Fighting Tiger Softball Downs Cazenovia Wildcats 10-0 in NAC Home Match-up

Cobleskill Softball Tops Cazenovia in NAC Western Division Action

Cobleskill, N.Y.: With the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship Tournament fast approaching, the SUNY Cobleskill softball team opened an important series versus NAC Western Division rival Cazenovia College by topping the visiting Wildcats by a score of 10-0 at Fighting Tiger Park to cement their hold on the division's top spot in a game that could have a major impact on the league's standings and tournament seedings. With the victory the Fighting Tigers move to 12-13 overall including an 9-1 record in league play while the Wildcats fall to 14-7 overall with a 4-5 record versus conference opponents.

Cobleskill jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first inning taking advantage of three Wildcat errors and highlighted by a three-run triple off the bat of senior second baseman Aubrie Marx Rotterdam, N.Y., Mohanasen High School, then walked the game off in the bottom of the six via eight-run rule on a three-run home run from senior shortstop Maya Davies, Binghamton, N.Y., Chenango Valley High School/Onondaga Community College.

On the day, Davies went 2-for-4 with the homer, four RBI and two runs scored while Marx finished 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored.

With ample offensive support, sophomore right hander Marissa Wheeler, Kinderhook, N.Y., Ichabod Crane High School, went the distance hurling six shutout innings allowing six hits striking out eight and walking three to improve to 6-4 overall on the season.

The Fighting Tigers and Wildcats will close out their series on Saturday, April 30, with a doubleheader at Fighting Tiger Field with first pitch at 12:00 p.m.
