Bangor, Me.: The SUNY Cobleskill softball team opened the 2022 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) championship tournament with a decisive 18-5 mauling of the Wildcats of Cazenovia College in a game hosted by Husson University at the Eagles Robert & Francis O'Keefe Softball Field. With the victory the Fighting Tigers are now 15-13 overall on the year while Wildcats are now fall to 16-10 overall on the season to date.
After the Wildcats scored the first run of the contest the Fighting Tigers responded by scoring the next 18 runs of the contest unanswered highlighted by a 12-run second inning which was punctuated by a three-run homer off the bat of sophomore first baseman
Alexis Miranda, Nashua, N.H., Nashua High School, as nine separate Cobleskill players drove in a run in the contest. Â
At the plate senior shortstop
Maya Davies, Binghamton, N.Y., Chenango Valley High School/Onondaga Community College, went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI while junior third baseman
Emma Duarte, Dighton, Mass., Bristol County Agricultural High School, posted a 3-for-4 effort with two runs scored and an RBI.
Sophomore pitcher
Marissa Wheeler, Kinderhook, N.Y., Ichabod Crane High School, went the distance striking out two while allowing only one walk to run her record to 8-4 overall on the season. Â
Cobleskill will next be in action on Saturday when they meet the tournament's top seeded team the host Eagles of Husson University in a battle of the conference's divisional winners at 1:00 p.m.
