Cobleskill, NY: The Cobleskill Esport teams are gearing up for the postseason in the SUNY League as the regular season enters their final weeks in the ECAC League.
This fall the Tigers are fielding teams in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (two teams), Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (4 teams), EA FC 24 (four teams) and Overwatch 2. They will be competing in the competitive SUNY Esports League and ECAC Esports League.
The Call of Duty team of Treelee Edmund (Bronx, NY),
Nazaire Odom (Queens, NY),
Ajani Simpson (Springfield Gardens, NY),
Aaron Smith,
Rennie Stockton (Manhattan, NY) and
Akeem Thompson (Mount Vernon, NY) are on a four game win streak in the SUNY League. It was Edmund, Odom, Simpson and Stockton that took down division one University of Buffalo 3-1. Cobleskill took hardpoint 250-223, but Buffalo answered winning search and destroy 6-3. The Tigers closed out the match winning control 3-0 and hardpoint 250-193.
Then it was the team of Edmund, Odom, Simpson and Smith that swept SUNY Free Agents 3-0 in a highly anticipated matchup that had playoff implications for both teams. The Tigers were flawless and executed as a team winning hardpoint 250-164, search and destroy 6-0 and search 3-1. With the win, Cobleskill locked down the second overall seed which is a program best.
In the ECAC league, it was Edmunds, Odom, Stockton and Thompson that dominated West Virginia University 3-1 to improve the Tigers to 3-2 overall.
Call of Duty is now 5-2 on the season in the SUNY League and earned a first-round bye this week in the SUNY League Playoffs.
Call of Duty is now 3-2 in the ECAC League, their first match is Friday, November 10
th at 8:00 p.m. against New England College.
The Cobleskill Overwatch 2 team of
Sean Mangual (Manhattan, NY),
Kip Brownstein (Cohoes, NY),
Lucas Williams (Brooklyn, NY),
Matthew Ayala (Bronx, NY),
Jack Spugnardi (Boston, MA),
Malik Tingle (Poughkeepsie, NY) and
Michael Amoateng (Bronx, NY) fell to Nuemann University 3-1 in a close match that could have went either way. Cobleskill took the first map 2-1 before falling in the next three maps, 2-3, 1-3 and 0-3.
Overwatch is now 0-5 on the season in the ECAC League. Their next matchup is against Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday, November 8
th at 8:00 p.m.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has four teams competing in the SUNY League.
Matthew Nikolaus (Middleburgh, NY) will be the SSB Team A this season and went 4-1 in the sixth week defeating Niagara County Community College (2-0), Oneonta State (2-0), Cobleskill Team D (2-0) and SUNY Brockport (2-0). He sits at 16-14 overall on the season.
Christopher Outman (Rushford, NY) is representing SSB Team B for the Tigers and finished 2-3 on the night picking up two wins against Morrisville State (2-0). Outman is currently 9-21 overall.
Chad Edwards (Brooklyn, NY) finished 1-4, he picked up his solo win against Niagara County Community College (2-0). Edwards is currently 11-19 overall. Freshman
Riley Mercera (Rye Brook, NY) went 1-4 on the controller last Thursday night with a win over Suffolk County Community College. Mercera is currently 10-20 overall.
Super Smash Bros. enters the first and second round of the SUNY League Playoffs this week and will be in action on Thursday, November 9
th at 8:00 p.m.
The Tigers returned to EA FC 24 action earlier in the month. Cobleskill is represented by returners
Saro Karageozian (Colonie, NY) and
Derek Streeter (Utica, NY) and by newcomers
Conor Flanigan (Troy, NY) and John Espinoza (Ossining, NY).
Saro (EA FC B) sits at 2-3 after falling to the University of Albany 2-0 during the week. Streeter (EA FC A) leads the Tigers with a 4-1 overall record as picked up a forfeit win over Augustana College.
Newcomers
Conor Flanigan (EA FC C) defeated Radford University via a forfeit and now sits at 3-2 overall. Espinoza had to come from behind for his 2-1 victory over Stockton University. He is now 2-3 on the season.
