Schenectady, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill softball team returned to action on Wednesday afternoon after a 13-day lay-off due to weather by dropping a non-league doubleheader with Union College at Union's Alexander Field by scores of 17-0 and 11-3. With the losses the Fighting Tigers are now 2-8 overall while Union moves to 3-7 overall on the season to date.
In the opener Union scored three runs in the first inning followed by an eight run third inning to decide the issue scoring 17 runs on 15 hits.
The Fighting Tigers could manage only four hits in the contest led by sophomore right fielder
Emily Lutz, Ellenville, N.Y., Ellenville High School, who went 1-for-2 at the plate and by sophomore catcher
Mackenzie Wendelken, Stuyvesant, N.Y., Ichabod Crane High School, who also went 1-for-2.
In the nightcap, once again, the Fighting Tigers could not cool off the Union bats as the home team rapped out nine hits while taking advantage of 11 walks in the contest.
Operating at second base
Mackenzie Wendelken continued her impressive hitting streak going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI with first-year designated hitter/pitcher
Kimberly Olsen, Schoharie, N.Y., Schoharie High School, going 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Senior shortstop
EmmaRae Easton, Coudersport, Pa., Coudersport High School, was also 1-for-2 with a double in the game.
Cobleskill will return to action over the weekend when the welcome the Bears of SUNY Potsdam to Fighting Tiger Park on Saturday April 1 for a pair of non-conference contests at Fighting Tiger Park beginning at 12:00 p.m. followed by a non-league home doubleheader on Sunday April 2 versus the Saints of St. Lawrence University beginning at 12:00 p.m.Ā Ā
